Online Safety Bill (OSB)

  • The draft bill is about to enter a 12 week pre-legislative scrutiny (PLS) period, likely concluded in the autumn.
  • Following PLS, the Bill is expected to come before Parliament in early-mid 2022.
  • OFCOM will then begin a process of drafting guidance for companies, likely taking a further 6–12 months, followed by a period for companies to perform their own risk assessments.
  • The Online Safety Bill will likely ‘go live’ by early 2023 at the earliest.
